To align ourselves with the overall values of Humber, we are committed to demonstrating our own Faculty values which are Inclusion, Compassion, Integrity, Self-Awareness, and Respect.Job Details:Position Title: Professor, Addictions and Mental Health – Graduate CertificateStatus: Full-Time AcademicFaculty/Department: Faculty of Social & Community ServicesCampus/Location: Lakeshore CampusSalary: Academic starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience as detailed in the collective agreement for academic employees.Timeline: Interviews are expected to begin the week of May 13, 2024What you will do:The successful candidate will be required to teach a range of courses in the Graduate Certificate – Addictions and Mental Health. Teaching assignments may also include courses in the Bachelor of Social Science Addictions and Mental Health degree program, in addition to, a range of related programs at the college diploma, degree and/or Ontario graduate certificate level.The incumbent will teach, develop curriculum, design/revise specific courses, create an effective and innovative learning environment for our students, assess student progress and achievement; work collaboratively with colleagues, participate in committees and related associations. In-person teaching will occur mainly at the Lakeshore Campus and occasionally at the downtown location.The incumbent will also support student advising, student recruitment, graduate placement, assist with the promotion and marketing of programs and develop and maintain strong industry and community ties.QualificationsWhat you bring to the role:The successful candidate must possess a master’s degree in social work, Psychology, Public health, Sociology, Social Policy or a related discipline. Candidates with a PhD in any of the fields indicated above, will be strongly considered. Candidate will have a proven teaching ability at the post-secondary level and with 5+ years of experience in teaching at the post-secondary level. Additional qualifications include over 3 years of clinical and/or community related practice experience, strong research background, critical thinking and writing skills; proven ability to work in a diverse, dynamic and team environment; commitment to creative, innovative approaches to problem solving and community building; knowledge of trends in the field of addictions and mental health, and experience working with diverse communities. Preference will be given to candidates with strong theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the field of addictions and mental health.Demonstrated ability to understand program learning outcomes and provide recommendations on course sequencing, design, and development. The candidate needs to demonstrate ability to teach a number of courses across the college , along with having specialized skills in the following areas: ability to translate theory into practical application, demonstrated engagement with the field including emerging issues and trends, ability to supervise field placements and/or thesis projects; ability to participate in industry-led or community-based applied research; demonstrated potential to assume broader academic leadership responsibilities evidenced by superior written and oral communication, teamwork, interpersonal skills and attention to detail. Scholarship and peer-reviewed publications will be an asset.In addition, the successful candidate will have engaging and effective teaching skills, demonstrated ability to coach and support students, demonstrated experience managing classroom dynamics, strong knowledge and application of current pedagogical principles, a student focused approach and a demonstrated commitment to fostering innovation and positive change. The successful candidate will be a collaborative team player who is committed to a positive team culture.
