Professor/ Associate Professor in Anthropology and Head of Subject of Anthropology and Archaeology

The Department of Anthropology and Archaeology is seeking to appoint a world-leading scholar and academic leader to the post of Professor or Associate Professor in Anthropology. The successful applicant will serve an initial three-year term as Head of Department and lead and develop our world-leading education and research in anthropology, with a focus on material culture, cultural heritage, intangible cultures or related area of anthropology.

You will play a lead role in the strategic development of the department’s research and educational offer building on our department’s ‘four field’ approach. The successful applicant will contribute to the leadership of our School through advancing strategy in line with the University’s Vision and Strategy 2022-2030– and its focus on equitable health, creative industries, and climate change, with underpinning themes of data and digitalization and social justice – as well as the strategic objectives of the School of Arts. You will also lead the department’s educational offer, including strategic oversight and operational leadership in the department’s curriculum development in ‘four fields’ anthropology. You will advance new areas of research in material culture, cultural heritage, intangible cultures or related area of anthropology and new research partnerships through world leading research projects, publications and substantial grant capture.  You will facilitate a world-leading research environment through outstanding mentorship and collegiality, commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and lead interdisciplinary and collaborative research within and beyond the University as well as spearhead interdisciplinary research partnerships and collaborations with other University Schools and  Faculties as well as institutes and centres (including Brigstow Institute, Bristol Digital Futures Institute, Cabot Institute, Jean Golding Institute, Elizabeth Blackwell Institute).
