Job Description:ABOUT THE ROLEAn exciting opportunity has arisen to join the University of Northumbria, working within Department of Geography and Environmental Science, with duties for the UK Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling (CPOM).CPOM is a world-leading centre that creates and uses satellite observations and numerical models to study processes occurring at Earth’s polar latitudes. Its core work is to provide UK national capability science, funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) in partnership with the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), and this underpins a broader programme of research carried out in collaboration with a wide range of strategic partners, including the European Space Agency. At Northumbria, CPOM is closely aligned with established interdisciplinary research themes on Extreme Environments, Global Development, and Space.Working within the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences at Northumbria University, this post will provide expertise to further enhance our research, teaching and entrepreneurial activities related to polar observations and modelling. This will include designing, developing and delivering high-quality teaching activities, undertaking individual and joint research to produce high-quality academic outputs, and participating in external activity to generate income, promote the subject, and raise the University’s profile. You must demonstrate continuing academic achievement and provide academic leadership (of your subject and associated colleagues) through active contribution to your discipline and to the life and work of the Faculty and the wider University. This will include contributing to significant change within practice, the discipline, profession and/or community at regional, national, and international level.This role will be responsible for leading CPOM’s sea ice Earth Observation activities, which will include directing and supervising staff working at Northumbria and collaborating with other CPOM institutions to meet core objectives of the long-term CPOM National Capability single centre science programme (PRESCIENT) and multi-centre project Climate Change in the Arctic and North Atlantic Region and Impacts on the UK (CANARI).The position is anticipated to be hired in the range Lecturer to full Professor, as appropriate to qualifications and experience.Specific responsibilities of this post will include:
