Research programmes revolve around collaboration, shared equipment and facilities, and shared learning, streamlining the process of getting new research programmes off the ground. The role is to establish an independent and leading research activity in the broader field of optical fibres, in an area aligned with both University and funder priorities.The role includes management/leadership and teaching responsibilities.About youYou will:

• Be imaginative and self-motivated with excellent communication skills.
• Have an active, internationally recognised research programme in the broader area of optical fibres and a proven track record of innovative thinking and high impact publication in any aspect of optical fibres and their applications.
• Posses a collegiate approach to academia, paired with a passion for excellence, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Experience in gaining external funding from different sources, building a research group and in identifying and solving important research problems.
• Be able to pursue a research programme in the area of experimental optical fibres, complementing but extending existing activities within the department and making use of the facilities within the department.

Additional InformationAs well as conducting cutting-edge externally funded research as a part of a collaborative and supportive environment, you will be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of taught courses at undergraduate level and to supervise doctoral students.The University of Bath is a leading research-intensive University.
