The roleThe University of Bristol Business School seeks to appoint a Professor in Practice (PiP). You will be a current practitioner with a distinguished track record in your field. We expect our PiPs to retain an ongoing role in practice, and therefore this is a part-time role of about 0.4 FTE (two days per week).The University of Bristol is currently AI University of the Year and will be home to the Isambard AI, the UK`s fastest supercomputer. The Business School already has exciting projects underway, including the Bristol Digital Futures Institute that houses our digital twin and smart cinema facilities, the Centre for SocioDigital Futures that examines the role of digital technologies on social and economic inequalities, and the climate crisis, and AI is a central theme to our new Business Education Research and Scholarship Network . You will help us do more.The Professor in Practice should have extensive experience and interest at a senior level at the intersection of AI and business. Your experience will have given you unique insights into, for example, the opportunities and challenges of AI for business, the ethical implications of AI for business, and/or the capabilities required to navigate the AI transition.What will you be doing?In the first instance, the Professor in Practice (PiP) will help lead on three specific initiatives;
- Developing a new AI focussed interdisciplinary programme between the Business School and the Faculty of Science & Engineering. The PiP will provide ensure the programme is consistent with fast changing industry requirements and that students have substantive opportunities for industry engagement.
- Creating a new executive education offering in the field of AI and Business. The PiP will use their industry experience coupled with the leading edge capabilities of the University of Bristol (e.g. Isambard AI , BDFI ) to help our team to develop and deliver a new and distinct executive level programme.
- Evolving the Business School`s AI capabilities, particularly in the opportunities for leveraging new technologies to assist and augment our student experience and engagement.
You should apply ifYou have –
- Extensive experience and a proven track record in industry, with a network of contacts.
- Experience, capability and desire to act as a professional role model in the areas of teaching, scholarship, academic management and professional practice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with business and civic leaders, students and our faculty.
- Experience of complex project management or leadership.
- In-depth understanding of your specialism to enable the development of new knowledge and understanding within the field.
- A collaborative and innovative mindset with the ability to contribute to the growth and success of our Business School.
- Degree educated within a relevant subject area.
- Masters degree (e.g. MSc, MBA) or higher postgraduate research degree (e.g. PhD, DBA).
