The University of Southampton seeks to recruit a new Professor of Paediatric Respiratory Biology to expand on our existing programmes and track record in this area, ideally in the field of primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD).Southampton has a long legacy of leading research into PCD and is arguably a world leader for PCD translational studies. Research crosses both paediatric and adult pulmonology. As such PCD research is a critical component of the success of the wider Respiratory group in Southampton. PCD research is a strong contributor to NIHR Southampton BRC and a number of objectives need to be delivered by the PCD group. The PCD group are likely to contribute well to the 2029 REF, (impact and outputs), and this momentum should be maintained. A LifeArc Centre of Rare Respiratory Diseases is to be launched in September 2024, which includes 5 partner Universities. The new appointee will fulfil the role of the senior academic to co-lead from Southampton.The PCD group is relatively large and continues to grow. Dr Jackson would lead the laboratory diagnostic service with support from UHS clinicians.The successful candidate will have a strong international profile in PCD and add synergy and/or a new dimension to our research activities. The successful individual will join a passionate team of basic and translational scientists working in close collaboration with clinical colleagues in our Biomedical Campus at Southampton General Hospital, in the laboratories within the School of Clinical and Experimental Sciences.We welcome applications from all candidates with an interest in the role, and those who are committed to helping us create an inclusive work environment.
