The Board of Electors to the Professorship of the Public Understanding of Mathematics invite applications for this Professorship from persons whose mathematical work complements research within the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP), and who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to and aptitude for promoting the public understanding of mathematics, to take up appointment as soon as possible. This post is part-time: at 40% full-time equivalent, and we welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for flexible working arrangements.Candidates will have an outstanding record of promoting the public understanding of mathematics in diverse ways. Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent and be able to demonstrate a strong record in research in the mathematical sciences which complements research within the scope of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP). An ability to teach in the Mathematical Tripos is essential. Experience in encouraging undergraduate and graduate students from groups underrepresented in STEM subjects, including women, would be an advantage.The post is accompanied by the option of accepting a Professorial Fellowship at Queens’ College.Standard professorial duties include teaching and research, examining, supervision and administration.
