UN Women Liberia has built networks of male advocates and community leaders committed to “zero tolerance” for violence against women, and has built and replicated the peace hut model, empowering community women to take action to combat violence and resolve disputes independently and with the support of the Police. UN Women supported Liberia in the development of its National Action Plan for the implementation of UN SCR 1325 and is supporting its implementation through ongoing support to the Ministries of Justice and Gender and Development. UN Women also supported Liberia in the development of a gender-mainstreamed Poverty Reduction Strategy, the development and presentation of its 1st to 6thCEDAW report and development of its first national gender policy.

Partnerships and Coordination unit supports development and management of UN Women’s strategic partnerships and relationships, implementing the coordination strategy as well as resource mobilization work of Liberia country office.
Sustainable Development Goals: Gender Equality
Volunteers should be provided equal duty of care as extended to all host entity personnel. Host entity support to the Volunteer includes, but is not limited to:
• Introductory briefings about the organisation and office-related context including security, emergency procedures, good cultural practices;
• Support with administration and official processes as required;
• Structured guidance, mentoring and coaching by team members and Operations Manager including a clear workplan and performance appraisal;
• Access to office space, equipment, and any other systems and tools required to complete the objectives of the assignment including a host entity email address;
• Access to shared host entity corporate knowledge, training and learning;
• Ensure that Volunteers are provided all necessary security measures as per the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS);
• Leave management;
• DSA for official travel, when applicable;
• All changes in the Description of Assignment occurring between recruitment and arrival or during the assignment need to be formalized with the United Nations Volunteer Programme;
• Investigate misconduct: sharing reports with the UNV;
1. Support to the Women, Peace and Security Program
• Support research and analysis to guide policy advocacy and programming to promote women’s participation in peace and security settings in Liberia;
• Provide support to the implementation of the National Action Plan on Women Peace and Security and other GEWE commitments
• Maintain an ongoing watch-brief on national policy developments related to women peace and security and identify strategic policy entry points for UN Women;
• Support capacity building of partners implementing initiatives on Women, Peace and Security;
• Monitor partner’s implementation of WPS activities in line with signed agreements where applicable;
• Provide technical inputs to strengthen programme documents, concept notes, project proposals, annual work plans, and strategic documents;
• Support effective application of results-based management principles and tools for programming related to women’s role in peace and security in Liberia.
• Support implementation of donor reporting obligations and knowledge codification.
2. Support Partnerships and Coordination work
• Support partnership and outreach activities regarding normative work and campaigns, commemoration of international days, and outreach to non-traditional partners.
• Support outreach efforts to support partnership-building and the management of existing partnerships, ensuring regular communication and coordination.
• Support and Facilitate engagement with civil society organisations, including supporting the establishment of Civil Society Advisory Group (CSAG) Liberia and its workplan.
• Support the development of new projects, including drafting concept notes, funding proposals and partnership agreements.
• Support commitments to expand work on women peace and security and youth peace and security amongst other thematic areas and prepare briefing notes and talking points as required.
• Perform other tasks as required.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
Results/expected outputs:
• As an active UN Women team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly, and high-quality support rendered to UN Women and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including:
• Drafting periodic reports to Donors, and Senior Management Team on programs progress and achievements;
• Preparing and participating in meetings/discussions with subject matter experts, working level staff and other stakeholders;
• Assist with resource mobilization efforts, including preparing concept notes, project proposals and follow-up with donor agencies;
• Capacity development through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with, including supervising, government and non-government counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs);
• Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment.
