University of Bristol
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join the Programmes team in the Division of Research, Enterprise & Innovation.
The Programmes team:
- helps to position the University to take advantage of future & emerging trends and opportunities in research, innovation and enterprise.
- initiates, develops and progresses, to bidding & delivery teams, large scale & multi-partner research & innovation projects.
As a member of the Programmes team you would help drive pre-award activity; and so enabling the University to be ready for bidding into new funding opportunities from UKRI and others.
The focus of this Programme Manager role is initially planned to be to Net Zero (ie the decarbonisation of all sectors of the economy).
For each Programme, the role involves developing a vision of how the University stands to benefit; and progressing the activity in such a way to maximise and realise those benefits. The Programme Manager will usually work closely with identified senior academic leads and will draw on resource and capability across the University to progress activities.
Good teamwork across both academic and professional services colleagues is essential, as well as relationship building with external organisations. Programme Managers are continually required to handle ambiguity, uncertainty and conflicting interests in pursuit of the programme vision.
Initially, this role will focus on developing areas of our net zero strategic plan, including low carbon energy generation & storage, nuclear energy, atomic technologies (e.g. production of medical isotopes), hydrogen, sustainable aviation and others.
- You are motivated by the idea of leading the early-stage development of cutting-edge research and enterprise programmes in a university setting.
- You will be a good convener of people and enjoy engaging with people from different sectors and backgrounds around a specific topic or theme.
- You should have a relevant degree (or equivalent qualification or professional experience) and ideally have experience of applying project and/or programme management methodologies, and business development experience with funders, including proven experience of the preparation of business cases and plans, and applications for large scale funding opportunities.
- You will be a self-starter, someone who can get up to speed quickly by applying their initiative, who thrives on deciphering large amounts of information to identify the salient points, is mindful of competing priorities, and can drive activity forward in a sustainable manner.
It is anticipated that interviews will be held on Thursday 29 June 2023
For any informal enquiries please contact Fiona Hyland, Head of Research & Enterprise Programmes; [email protected]
We recently launched our strategy to 2030 tying together our mission, vision and values.
The University of Bristol aims to be a place where everyone feels able to be themselves and do their best in an inclusive working environment where all colleagues can thrive and reach their full potential. We want to attract, develop, and retain individuals with different experiences, backgrounds and perspectives – particularly people of colour, LGBT+ and disabled people – because diversity of people and ideas remains integral to our excellence as a global civic institution.
