Job Title: Programme Officer (London) – National Education Nature Park (hybrid)
Location: Hybrid (London region) including work from home, RHS Vincent Square and regular travel to schools and events across London
Salary: £29,705
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Contract: Fixed Term Contract until August 2027

Overview of the Role

To support the increased participation in the National Educational Nature Park in London by engaging with a broad range of stakeholders to support Early Years, primary, secondary, FE, SEN and PRU settings. To support the Senior Programme Officer in delivering a regional strategy that spreads awareness of the programme and drives continued engagement.

Sitting within the RHS Learning and Public Engagement division, as the London Programme Officer for the National Education Nature Park, you will work to support increased participation in the National Educational Nature Park (NENP) in London. This will include:

• Reporting to the Senior Programme Officer (London) and working as part of a supportive wider team to meet the goals of the Nature Park Programme.
• Identifying local sources of support, and through events and workshops, inspiring and upskilling key stakeholders to sustain schools and settings in their National Education Nature Park journey.
• Working directly with educators and young people from early years, primary, secondary and further education settings.
• Using formal and informal learning opportunities across a wide range of curriculum areas in all phases from ages 0-18.
• Developing a deep understanding of the local context and support available for education settings within the region on environmental education, nature restoration, climate change, climate adaptation and green space access.
• Working with the multidisciplinary programme partnership to provide on the ground insights and testing of new programme elements.

We are looking for a collaborative and creative individual with a passion for plants, biodiversity, education and the environment; someone who is keen to share scientific knowledge with all children and young people. The Programme Officer for the National Education Nature Park in London will champion the role of young people in finding innovative solutions to mitigate the ecological and climate crisis.

Through this role you will also play an important part in the wider RHS strategy of engaging more young people in a lifelong adventure with gardening.

About National Education Nature Park

The National Education Nature Park is a partnership project led by the Natural History Museum, working with the Royal Horticultural Society, the Royal Society, Royal Geographical Society, Learning through Landscapes, Manchester Metropolitan University and additional supporting partners.

The National Education Nature Park engages children, young people and their educators with nature, supporting young people in England to play a driving role in digitally mapping and monitoring biodiversity on their grounds and critically, taking action to enhance it.

From creating pollinator friendly habitats where biodiversity can thrive, to digging ponds, or creating planting schemes that support climate resilience, the project showcases what can be achieved for nature on the education estate.

The Nature Park also provides opportunities for young people to take part in a range of national scale community science projects, identifying local impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss and developing key skills to solve these problems.

Within the project, RHS lead on regional support, the National Education Nature Park grant programme and Programme Development.
