STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled and have attended University courses in the last 12 months inclusive of having completed at least two years of undergraduate studies or have recently graduated in the last 6 months;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);
  • Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency/level C). Working knowledge of another official UN language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian plus Portuguese) is an asset;
  • Education: Major in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or other field relevant to international development assistance.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking to fill an internship position under WFP China Office. The position will be based at China Office in Beijing, China. The Internship will be for an initial period of 8 months starting from July 2024.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

JOB PURPOSE

Under the primary supervision of the Head of Domestic Programme, the intern will undertake the following tasks:

1. Contribute towards the development of a limited number of projects, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with wider programme policies and guidance.

2. Provide project management support to specific and defined programmes and projects that are relatively straight forward in nature, ensuring a coordinated approach with wider programmes that complies with WFP standards and procedures.

3. Follow data gathering and monitoring systems ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained.

4. Research and analyse policy and operational issues to support senior colleagues in the development of policies, programmes and activities.

5. Contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reporting on programmes and activities that enable informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders.

6. Liaise with internal counterparts to ensure effective collaboration, monitor ongoing projects.

7. Support the identification, development and management of potential partnerships to leverage resources needed for domestic programmes.

8. Assist programme team to prepare concept note and project proposals for donor funding support.

9. Support documenting project best practices and experience and evidence generation.

10. Contribute to the effort of amplifying impact and result of domestic projects to the internal and external partners with powerful communication tools and platforms.

11. Others as required.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment. 
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • Depending on the duty station of assignment, WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education;
