Programmer, Student Information SystemsPrimary Purpose;The Programmer, Student Information Systems, works in a collaborative team to assist in the evolution, maintenance and support for USask’s student information systems ecosystem.The Student Information Systems team supports the Teaching, Learning and Student Experience portfolio and the campus community in the collection, storage, and retrieval of student data. The unit is a partner in providing academic and administrative staff with distributed access to up-to-date information about students – information that is used to ensure student success and in academic and institutional planning.Nature of Work:This position reports to the Team Lead for the Student Information team within the Enterprise Solutions Student and Alumni team. Under the direction of the Team Lead, this position is part of a team of technical staff configuring, enhancing and supporting the student information systems ecosystem. This is an entry level position offering high potential for growth and advancement.With on the job training, guidance and mentorship from senior staff, both functional and technical, the programmer, Student Information Systems will assist in the determination and implementation of appropriate technical solutions that will support service improvement initiatives and/or projects.This position will utilize the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Enterprise Architecture principles when working with clients to determine technical requirements and solutions. Key principles include the value of data as both an asset and a shared resource, minimizing duplication of systems and processes, and integration with, and security of, information systems. As the university’s systems and technical architecture changes, this position must adapt to the changing system and technology landscape.Occasional weekend or evening work may be required, typically scheduled in advance.The University of Saskatchewan values diversity and Indigenous engagement is a strategic priority. Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess technical aptitude, people skills and experience with supporting technology and familiarity with the software lifecycle and software development. A post secondary diploma and one to three years of experience maintaining and operating a variety of technologies would be an asset. We appreciate that non-traditional career paths may have developed a candidate’s competency, and alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered.Skills:Ability to learn; Strong customer service focus and recognition of the value of customer relationships; Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team; ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical individuals; effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational abilities; a positive attitude, dependable and flexible; understanding of relational database management systems.Department: Information and Communications Technology
