Contract type: Full Time (37.5 hours) – PermanentLocation: Huddersfield, Huddersfield International Study CentreSalary: up to £24,679 per annumJoin the University of Huddersfield International Study Centre as a Progress and Welfare Coach. In this role, you’ll support international students from induction through to university progression, guiding them academically and pastorally, and setting high standards for attendance and engagement. We’re looking for a friendly, approachable individual with strong communication and administrative skills who is passionate about enhancing the student experience.ABOUT THE ROLE
- Deliver weekly Prepare to Progress (P2P) tutorials, providing academic, well-being, and employability guidance to students.
- Track student performance, liaise with the academic team, and implement intervention strategies as needed.
- Collaborate with academic tutors to provide resources that support student performance.
- Work with the Progression and Welfare Team to ensure student wellbeing and follow processes for under-18 students.
- Ensure attendance is tracked, interventions are completed, and records are maintained according to the Attendance Policy.
- Assist in organising and facilitating progression, enrichment, and engagement activities.
- Support students in maintaining their mental and physical health.
- Address welfare-related issues, referring to DSL/DDSL as necessary, and manage a caseload of students requiring support.
- Understand and follow wellbeing and safeguarding procedures and policies, including supporting students with additional needs.
- Safeguard all students according to relevant policies, including Prevent Duty and Child Protection Policy.
- Respond to First Aid emergencies, and unwell students, and support students in attending appointments.
- Support students during the arrival process and address welfare issues outside normal office hours if required.
- Accurately input and maintain student details throughout the year.
- Cover duties for absent staff, adhere to compliance requirements and support events and new student inductions.
- Contribute to the Progression and Welfare Team by sharing best practices, covering sessions for absent colleagues, and attending meetings as scheduled.
ABOUT YOU
- Qualification in a related discipline and a coaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
- Experience in providing welfare, emotional, and pastoral care to students.
- Experience in administration and an understanding of compliance requirements in an academic setting.
- Awareness and understanding of safeguarding (essential) and experience working with vulnerable groups (desirable).
- Knowledge of data protection regulations and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel (essential).
- Excellent organisational skills and flexibility to work under pressure whilst meeting deadlines.
- High-level communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with key stakeholders, including students.
- A student-centred and client-focused approach.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
- Willingness to maintain professionalism and a calm demeanour under pressure.
