The Opportunity
As a Project Accountant (PFA2) you will be responsible for undertaking various project accounting tasks including monthly invoicing, payments, reconciliation, client and internally focused month-end reporting, reviewing budget tracking by project teams and forecast preparation across an allocated portfolio or in support of the overall deliverables required from the project delivery team. This position requires interaction and coordination between a variety of stakeholders and a problem-solving approach to financial accounting. You will use their accounting knowledge to improve all forms of project reporting and assist finance leadership in continuous process improvement.
Core Responsibilities

Attend regular meetings with project team

An understanding and interest in the financial and technical elements of the project

Perform timely and continuous budget tracking and analysis aligned with project needs; review, validate and report project actual costs incurred for labour, expense and travel
-
Prepare and manage project specific deliverables related to financial or contractual requirements (budgeting, invoicing, orders, payments, reporting, supporting back-up data, limitation of funds, communications, etc.)

Collaborate with Project Delivery team to build appropriate work breakdown structure to comply with client requirements and allow for accurate time charging and financial projections

Perform timely subcontractor monitoring, as well as vendor invoice review in alignment with forecasts and workplans

Work with project teams to monitor project fees and expenses against initial budgets and revised projections, ensuring that risk of over and under-spend across the entire contract is promptly identified

Monitor and escalate financial risks on foreign exchange and currency across all projects
-
Responsible for completion of all Balance Sheet reconciliations and help to resolve any discrepancies

Prepare information for, and ensure timely response to audit requests, client reviews and queries

Provide high quality support and guidance to site teams

Take ownership for all finance-related tasks for assigned projects and ensure timeliness and high-quality on all project finance deliverables

Periodic Estimate at Completion (EAC) reports

Quarterly Forecast, annual-planning

Monthly Variance explanation

Accruals
-
Other company-level project deliverables such as monthly reporting, quarterly forecasting and annual long range planning process for UK

Develop workplan budgets and budget modifications for project teams that align to contractual requirements, proposal, and project work breakdown structure (WBS); Work with Program Delivery team to adjust as appropriate

Comply with company, client, local and other legal requirements, and regulations

Initiate purchase requisitions in support of project services and material purchase needs
-
Work with procurement team to review vendor and consultant agreements to validate funding and contract type are appropriate based on prime contract including subcontracts and materials purchases

Any other duties as appropriate to the position, as requested.
Key Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree + Two years of relevant experience, or Master’s Degree
-
Extensive knowledge of Excel spreadsheet programs
-
Strong analytical and computer skills, ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently, and familiarity with current Internet resources
-
Communicates clearly and concisely in both verbal and written communications; strong cross-culture communication and sensitivity skills
-
Ability to business partner with stakeholders and communicate key financial information
-
Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively when needed
-
Demonstrated resourcefulness in problem-solving approach
-
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
-
Good management and planning skills of project tasks

Experience working on international aid donor funded projects/programmes (e.g. FCDO) preferred
-
Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with 12 months post qualification experience preferred
-
UK work authorization is required, and sponsorship is not available.
