Context:
Under the overall supervision of the Director, Coordination Office for the Mediterranean,
Chief of Mission in Italy and Malta, Representative to the Holy See and the direct
supervision of the Project Manager and in cooperation with the Child Protection Expert, the
incumbent will perform the duties listed below as Project Assistant, Protection within the
Project: “Family tracing and assessment, return and reintegration- FAR-sighted”.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
1. Based on the already developed template and on its foreseen revision, assist in
filling out Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMS) profiles to be shared with IOM
colleagues or partners to carry out family tracing and assessment in the country of
residence of the UMC family. The profiles will be filled out in English, French or
Spanish as necessary according to the country where they are performed, based on
the information shared by the dedicated “support office” within the “General
Directorate for Migration Policies and the Social and Labour Integration of Migrants
at the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies (the Donor);
2. Based on the already developed template and on its foreseen revisions, assist in
filling out and submitting to the “support office” at the Ministry of Labour and Social

IOM Missions;
3. Regularly update all data related to the cases under his/her responsibility in the
dedicated project database;
4. Draft the reintegration plan in case UMCs are assisted in their family reunification
process, facilitating the participation of the concerned children and by closely liaising
with the IOM Missions or partners in the areas considered;
5. Assist in organizing all the administrative formalities related to the travel documents
and authorizations from competent authorities, both in Italy and in the country of
origin, including eventual escort services, for UMCs returning to their home country
or being reunited with their relatives in their country of residence;
6. Assist the Project Manager in liaising with IOM Missions and Partners for the
collection of all financial, supporting documents with respect to the activities carried
out to implement family tracing and assessment as well as return and reintegration of
UMCs assisted within the project;
7. Assist the Child Protection Expert in carrying out general administrative activities
related to the setting up of the project’s Community of Practice and of the project’s
Scientific Committee, as well as supporting the project’s coordination activities;
8. Organize online webinars, online and in person sensitization activities addressed to
project’s stakeholders and in-person or online counselling sessions addressed to
UMC potential beneficiaries of return and reintegration assistance (AVR&R);
9. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
• High school diploma with four years of experience; or
• Bachelor’s degree with two years of experience.
Experience
• A minimum of one year of professional experience, including relevant experience in
migrants’ direct assistance and counselling of migrants;
• Experience in working with vulnerable groups;
• Experience in social work or case work will be considered an asset;
• Work experience in an international context is considered an advantage.
Skills
• Knowledge of migration related areas dealt with by the Organization;
• Familiarity with the migration context in Italy and with movement-related operations is
considered an asset.
Languages
For this position, fluency in Italian, Spanish, French and English is required (oral and
written).
Knowledge of Arabic or any other languages is considered an asset.
