Project Assistant – River Restoration

35 hours per week – Fixed term 20 month contract to 2026

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is one of the UK’s fastest growing nature conservation organisations
and seeks to appoint a Project Assistant.

The Project Assistant will support the delivery of a suite of nature recovery network and
conservation projects across North Yorkshire. The post is based within a North Project team of
seven, responsible developing and delivering exciting new initiatives, and a wider North team
of 17 that also deliver reserves management and our conservation grazing programme.

The Project Assistant will deliver a range of river catchment based / landscape scale, nature
conservation initiatives that help increase the reach and connectivity of our work and increase
the overall impact for nature throughout the region. Key projects the post holder would be
involved with include White-Clawed Crayfish conservation, pond creation for Great Crested
Newts, wetland and wader conservation in the mid-Swale, and the restoration of the River Esk
and Foss. This will involve delivering practical tasks and survey field work, in addition to
liaising with volunteers, stakeholders and contractors during project delivery.

Key skills, knowledge and experience required to undertake this role include:

  • Experience of undertaking physical and practical tasks
  • Good time management skills and ability to forward plan.
  • Recording/data inputting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A “can do” and flexible approach, keen to work in a team, but with the ability to work alone.
  • High standards of personal and professional integrity.
