Restoring Upland Nature (RUN)

Restoring Upland Nature (RUN) is the home of the pioneering South of Scotland Golden Eagle Project and a Conservation Partner of the Red Squirrel Recovery Network. RUN is now leading an ambitious, UK Government-funded project, in partnership with a group of core partners including Forestry England, to restore golden eagles to England through the North England Golden Eagle Project (NEGEP).

RUN is dedicated to restoring nature across Britain’s wild spaces. Working with local communities and using tried and tested approaches, RUN supports the recovery of some of the UK’s most iconic wild animals. Central to this work is the reinforcement of wildlife populations and the restoration of habitats that have suffered from centuries of intensive use, degradation, and fragmentation. Collaboration, listening, and evidence-based learning are fundamental to RUN’s approach.

RUN is a young charity, founded in 2024, building on the success of its work helping revive the golden eagle population in South Scotland since 2018, as well as its more recent work with the Red Squirrel Recovery Network.

RUN has secured £1 million from the UK Government and Forestry England to develop and implement NEGEP. With golden eagles already beginning to cross the border from South Scotland, this project will explore a reintroduction programme that could potentially include the release of juvenile golden eagles. An important first step will be to engage with a wide range of communities and organisations to explore the opportunities and conditions needed for successful restoration.

About the role

Restoring Upland Nature (RUN) is seeking a skilled and committed Project Manager to lead the development and delivery of the North England Golden Eagle Project (NEGEP).

This is a rare opportunity to play a central role in a high-profile nature restoration initiative. Working under the direction of the CEO, the Project Manager will oversee the development of the project in partnership with Forestry England, national and regional conservation and land management agencies, NGOs, and local communities across Northern England.

The role will focus on exploring, developing, and, subject to formal approval, supporting the potential reintroduction of golden eagles to Northern England. You will help shape the project from planning through to delivery, ensuring strong partnership working, effective community and stakeholder engagement, and high standards of project management throughout.
