Project Officer – Championing National Parks for Everyone

Danby Lodge National Park Centre, North Yorkshire (with frequent travel across the National
Park and Teesside)

The North York Moors National Park Authority looks after and promotes one of the most
phenomenal parts of the British Isles. Filled with breath-taking scenery, magnificent wildlife,
picture book villages and a dramatic coastline, the North York Moors boasts some of the most
diverse landscapes in the UK.

The Championing National Parks for Everyone project, run by Peak District Mosaic in partnership
with Yorkshire Dales, Peak District and North York Moors National Park Authorities, Derbyshire
Dales CVS and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, aims to make national parks
accessible to all. This initiative offers diverse communities opportunities to visit, enjoy and
work in these natural spaces.

We are now looking for a Project Officer to join us on a full-time, fixed-term basis, working
37 hours per week for 18 months. There is an expectation that some of this work will take place
on evenings and weekends. We are happy to vary this working pattern for the right candidate.

The Role

As a Project Officer, you will support the development and delivery of the Championing National
Parks for Everyone project.

Your role will focus on the Community Champion Training programme, supporting participants to
develop the knowledge and skills to deliver enjoyable activities within the National Park.

Working with project partners and managers, you’ll create opportunities for diverse communities
to enjoy the National Park and experience the wellbeing benefits from being in nature through
the delivery of events, activities, advice and training.

You’ll build links with local networks and organisations that work with people from
underrepresented communities, promoting the project opportunities, enhancing engagement with
the National Park and widening participation.

Additionally, you will:

  • Manage staff and volunteers
  • Provide advice and support to Community Champions
  • Support project monitoring
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the Authority’s Values, Health and Safety
    and Equalities policies

About You

To be considered as a Project Officer, you will need:

  • Knowledge of co-ordinating and delivering projects that engage communities, with specific
    emphasis on those from diverse backgrounds for the benefit of health and wellbeing/connection
    with the outdoors
  • The ability to develop engagement through a range of channels e.g., face to face, workshops,
    through partner networks and online
  • Great organisational and project management skills
  • Great relationship building skills
  • Excellent communications skills
  • A qualification in and/or significant experience of community work, adult training/education,
    leading health and wellbeing activities
  • A full, valid driving licence

Selection and interviews

Interviews are to be held on Wednesday 28 August.
