Two coastlines are available to explore along with the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall.Our Opportunity:As a Project Scientist or Senior Project Scientist, you’ll join a growing team of big thinkers who love finding innovative solutions to our industry’s most challenging problems.You’ll be given real responsibility from day one, collaborating with forward-thinking customers and technical experts across our business, playing a leading role in our research and testing activities and helping deliver career and industry-defining projects. You will be given the time to build your network, the resources to support your development, and the freedom to satisfy your curiosity and desire to learn.You will be responsible for the design, deployment, data capture, quality review, analysis, costing and procurement of a wide range of measurements of various phenomena in Major Hazard type experiments, along with management of trials and experimental tests! Our projects are truly unique. They are large scale, and often involve flammable gases, high explosives, fragmentation, toxic atmospheres and high-pressure systems.In addition, you’ll communicate measurements through internal reviews, discussions with clients and even via presentations at conferences or through journal papers. You’ll also help innovate in the measurements field – through application of novel instrumentation solutions and analysis techniques.As we said, this is no normal role!You’ll be stretched but always supported, so don’t worry if our industry or terminology above is currently unfamiliar to you, we will teach you all you need to know.   • Degree in Physics, Maths or relevant Engineering
  • Highly analytical with strong problem-solving capability (ideally possessing scripting experience for data analysis)
  • Driven to acquire further technical skills and knowledge and work towards chartership and studying for additional qualifications (e.g. Masters or PhD)
  • Ability to manage and prioritise own workload in a commercial environment, whilst maintaining focus on safety and quality
  • Effective team working skills, comfortable engagement with internal/external stakeholders, demonstrating the ability to understand and analyse complex problems
  • Create innovative solutions and communicate these effectively via written and verbal reports, journal papers, presentations and/or commercial proposals
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a UK Security Clearance, (application for clearance will be assisted by DNV)

Whilst predominantly based at our Research and Testing Centre in Cumbria, the nature of this opportunity means we also require occasional travel around the UK and internationally.
