New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR) is seeking four paid summer interns. Two will work in our Newsroom, one will work with our Audience Engagement team and one will work in Engineering. Over 10 weeks (June-August), the interns will be brought into the middle of all work process. Through your internship you will learn best practices, take part in our regular meetings, learn the various types of work we do. The interns will have a mentor and support from station staff from multiple departments.
These are paid, internships based out of Concord, NH.
News Internships – Reporting
These interns will work as a general assignment reporters in the newsroom, getting daily news assignments, pitching their own ideas for quick-turn and longer-term stories and learning how to build a network of diverse sources. Interns will learn journalistic ethics and learn the various types of reporting we do and learn how to produce a news story for audio, digital and social media. The interns will spend a fair amount of time in the field reporting stories and then coming back to the newsroom to work closely with an editor on how to turn their reporting into a fully fleshed out piece of journalism.
Qualifications for the News Internships:
We are looking for candidates with initiative and curiosity, excellent writing skills, a strong interest in local news and building trust with local audiences, the ability to work independently and efficiently, and an interest in public media.
Having consistent and reliable transportation is a requirement of this role as the news internship will require travel within NH. This is an onsite position.
Social Media Internship – Audience Team
The Social Media intern will work with the Audience Engagement Producer and Senior Digital Producers, assisting with adapting NHPR’s on-air and digital journalism into compelling social media content. The intern will create engaging social media posts across platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, and more, based on the work of NHPR’s newsroom and programming teams. This could include accompanying reporters into the field to take photos or creating social media-friendly graphics with audio, for example. You will leave with clips for your portfolio and will have the ability to experiment with new formats and learn social media management tools while you are here.
Qualifications for the Social Media Audience Internship:
The ideal candidate will be creative, passionate about social media and digital storytelling, comfortable working with digital technology, and comfortable working on deadlines. They should have strong writing and organizational skills, accuracy, attention to detail and good interpersonal skills. Experience with journalism, proofreading or fact-checking is a plus. Broadcast Engineering Internship
The Engineering intern will work with the Broadcast Engineer, assisting with installing and maintaining critical broadcast equipment and helping support the production of remote broadcasts. The intern will also work with our Broadcast Transmission Engineer to install, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment at our transmission towers throughout New Hampshire. And the intern will work with our Operations Manager, programming and maintaining our on-air broadcast automation system to deliver programming and underwriting messages.
Qualifications for the Engineering Internship:
The ideal candidate will be interested in broadcast engineering, be comfortable working with technology and have an aptitude for engineering. They should have strong organizational skills, attention to detail and good interpersonal skills. Experience with digital audio production and automation systems is a plus. Compensation & Benefits:
The Internships are temporary full time, non-exempt, hourly positions. The internship program is a 40-hour a week role that is 10 weeks in length (June 2, 2025, to August 8, 2025). The compensation is $17.50 an hour and a $500 stipend is provided that can be used for housing/transportation/relocation.
Internships are non-benefit eligible positions; however interns receive 2 paid holidays and can participate in NHPR’s 403b plan.
