The Opportunity

Are you an enthusiastic and motivated Ranger/Project Manager who can organise and supervise habitat delivery to new nature sites? Join our growing team at Wild Capital. The position is permanent with real potential to develop with the company. Based in Ashbourne, Derbyshire (hybrid working possible) there will be opportunity to travel around England to our national network of nature reserves. This is an excellent opportunity for you to have exposure to an exciting, new and growing market with a leading national BNG mitigation provider.

The role

We are looking for a Ranger/Project Manager to assist our Habitat Delivery Project Manager. You will arrive with a strong independent work ethic and a combination of practical and desk-based experience of creating and managing environmental projects in a farming environment. The role will include tendering for the establishment and capital works to create our new nature reserves, meeting contractors onsite, co-ordination of projects, site evidencing and surveys. As our nature reserves mature the role will also include co-ordinating management and monitoring with opportunities to expand into more senior roles with experience.

Duties will include –

  • Reviewing Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMPs) from a practical perspective
  • Tendering for establishment and maintenance works and keeping track of phased and seasonal delivery of habitats
  • Regular travel to sites in the Midlands and the North of England to meet contractors tendering for works (practical and ecologists), marking out works, collecting site evidence and surveying
  • Supervising contractors and undertaking general/routine habitat management tasks
  • Occasional support with events

Your skills:

Criteria

Proven knowledge of habitat land management, farming techniques & machinery e.g. confident discussing practical application of machinery with farmers

Practical skills in countryside management e.g. planting hedgerows, installing fencing or has supervised these activities or led practical volunteers

Good written and verbal communication skills
✓ Essential

A good understanding of ecology, wildlife legislation and licencing for project delivery
✓ Essential

MS Office proficiency
✓ Essential

QGIS, tablets for mapping, remote monitoring equipment
✓ Desirable

Ability to work under pressure while remaining organised; able to work and prioritise across multiple sites and habitat types concurrently – both at the desk and on sites
✓ Essential

Full, valid UK driving licence
✓ Essential

Trailer licence/4×4 driving experience/qualification
✓ Desirable

Flexibility to stay away overnight occasionally
✓ Essential

We have two main offices. One in Wimborne and one in Woking. You will be applying to be based in our satellite office in Ashbourne, Derbyshire and will focus on our sites in the Midlands and the North of England.
