Regional Coordinator, Birmingham

Contract: One-year, 14-21 hours a week. Reduced hours during
school holidays can also be discussed.

Climate change is the big challenge of this century and young people hold the key to solving
it. Climate Ed is an exciting new charity that teaches primary school children about climate
change and empowers them to take action.

We are looking for someone highly organised with experience of working with volunteers and
schools and excellent networks across Birmingham and surroundings to co-ordinate the roll-out
of our programme across Birmingham. This role will work with volunteers, schools, local
authorities and others to ensure the successful roll-out of the programme and measurement of
results. The successful candidate will need to be based in/around Birmingham.

This role could be 14-21 hours per week depending on the amount of fundraising the role takes
on and the availability of our preferred candidate. These hours could be compressed or spread
out during the week and could reduce during school holidays if this was preferable to the
candidate. This role could grow as the programme matures in Birmingham, up to 4 days per week
depending on the success of the programme and of fundraising locally.

Main duties

• Recruit, train and co-ordinate volunteers to deliver Climate Ed’s in-school workshop
  programme in primary schools, providing support and guidance.
• Recruit schools through promotion of the workshop programme (online and in person).
• Liaise with schools and volunteers to ensure the successful delivery of the programme.
• Collate student, teacher and volunteer feedback and co-ordinate the continued development
  of Climate Ed’s classroom resources.
• Report progress of the roll-out to the Programme Manager, raising successes, challenges,
  risks and issues and agreeing actions to resolve.
• Work with Fundraising and Development Manager to raise funds for ongoing programme delivery
  in this region.
• Help to promote the programme and charity on the website, social media and other marketing
  activity by providing programme-related content.
• Work with team member(s) to develop the overall programme design and roll-out schedule,
  bringing a delivery perspective to planning.
• Help to represent the charity to the public and with key stakeholders, raising the profile
  and positive regard towards the charity.

Essential knowledge, skills and experience

• Knowledge of Birmingham and experience within local community networks and schools
• Motivating and managing a team (colleagues, community, volunteers)
• Gathering and reporting on data
• Knowledge of safeguarding
• Experience organising programmes of work
• Knowledge of climate change, climate science and carbon footprint measurement.

Desirable knowledge, skills and experience

• Teaching experience in UK schools (primary or secondary) or experience of working with
  children in a school environment.
• Experience in marketing and promoting extra-curricular activities to schools.
• Project management experience, designing delivery plans, tracking and reporting on
  progress.
• Knowledge of behaviour change as it relates to climate change and promoting sustainable
  lifestyles.
• Experience mentoring, training and coaching.
• Knowledge of the UK school curriculum.
• Experience designing teaching resources and assessing their effectiveness.
