Regional Procurement and Logistics Manager, Sahel & West Africa (based in Dakar, Senegal).

The starting salary is £58,882 GBP / approx. $74,136 USD including all allowances.

About MAG:

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the Sahel and West Africa programmes:

MAG operates across the Sahel and West Africa, contributing to Armed Violence Reduction (AVR) through activities such as Weapons & Ammunition Management (WAM), Community Risk Reduction (CRR), and Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA).

MAG focuses on implementing Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) activities in close collaboration with national defence and security authorities to ensure the safe storage, management, and destruction of weapons and munitions. In Mauritania, Senegal and Guinea Bissau, MAG also conducts Humanitarian Mine Action activities. These efforts aim to sustainably strengthen national capacities through the development of national mine action centres, non-technical surveys, and risk education sessions. These activities help identify and quantify the extent of mine contamination in the affected regions.

About the role

As a member of the Regional Senior Management Team (SMT), you will provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure the efficient and effective management of support services for MAG’s activities in West Africa, focusing on high risk and high-volume procurement, and third-party contractor management. You will contribute to building capacity for national logistics staff within the region, setting up, managing systems, increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of support service functions, and providing support to the Regional Director (RD) in risk management. Through your expertise and dedication, you will contribute to the achievement of MAG’s vision and mission and contribute to the strategic development of the regional programme.

About you

You will ideally hold a master’s degree or equivalent in relevant area (Finance, Business Administration, Logistics, Human Resources, Management)or equivalent professional experience. You will demonstrate a senior management experience overseas, preferably in international aid and development with a humanitarian agency in a developing country. It is required a lot of coordination and collaboration with MAG Senior Construction Technical experts to ensure safe, transparent and quality suppliers’ selection and management processes are performed across the supported countries. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to report in a timely and accurate manner, the ability to work independently and build excellent working relationships with different stakeholders. You must be self-motivated, with a flexible and enthusiastic approach to work, and able to work well under pressure with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment. You will be the focal point in identifying risks linked to procurement across the countries and support RD/RPMs in developing mitigation initiatives as well as supporting the Regional Director by acting as focal point for Global Procurement and Logistics improvement initiatives that are relevant for AMD projects in West Africa, ensure coordination across the supported countries and support hand-on the roll-out when required. It’s essential to be sensitive to cultural differences, able to work in a wide variety of cultural contexts and have the willingness and ability to work both at strategic and operational levels, with a hands-on approach when required.

A high level of working English and French is required for this role (spoken & written).
