Be part of an enthusiastic team who travel and teach in a variety of beautiful field sites throughout the UK.
Love where you work!
Established in 1943, our network of Learning Locations provides day and residential outdoor education courses for all ages. We aim to create outstanding opportunities for everyone to learn about nature.
We value each of our team members and understand that every role is vital to deliver our mission, so, we provide great benefits* to reward and support you while you work with us.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be part of our team of Regional Senior Tutors who regularly travel to work on a ‘relief’ basis to cover education courses where our centres need an extra hand. We are a diverse and supportive team who love to travel and share our specialist knowledge to a wide range of students.
This role is ideal if you are looking to progress your environmental education career. Working at a variety of Field Studies centres challenges you to develop, plan, and deliver outdoor learning activities in multiple field sites that you wouldn’t get if you were based in one location. Allowing you to grow as an individual and leader in your field of expertise.
When you’re not working in the field, our Regional Senior Tutors can get involved in wider projects across our charity, including initiatives to help us become more sustainable, reduce our carbon emissions, support nature recovery, boost biodiversity and staff wellbeing.
This is an active role, some weeks will be long and tiring, but our senior tutors find this work very rewarding, and we promise you will too! Follow this link to meet our Senior Tutor, Pippa. Let her show you what it is like to work at the Field Studies Council and why she loves where she works!
Please refer to the vacancy pack on our website for full details of the responsibilities of the role.
Where you’ll be based
You’ll work on a ‘relief’ basis predominantly covering some of our most beautiful learning locations in Southeast England.
Our schedules are written out well in advance, sometimes up to 8 weeks, so you have plenty of notice on where you will be. Although, we do need you to have some flexibility to cover at short notice at times, for example if an illness occurs.
When you’re not scheduled to work at a learning location, you are given flexibility to work from home remotely or you always have the option to work from the closest centre to your homebase.
Currently, this role is offered on a non-resident basis (negotiable); but accommodation is provided whilst working at a location away from your home area.
Who we’re looking for
You’ll have a degree or equivalent in an appropriate academic discipline, previous experience of teaching or tutoring and experience of writing and undertaking risk assessments.
This position will require you to regularly travel to our Field Studies Council locations across the UK, some of which are in beautiful remote locations but cannot always be accessed by public transport. Therefore, to be a successful candidate a full valid Driving Licence is an essential requirement.
In addition, you will have:
