Full time: 40 hours per weekOpen ended: PermanentApplications are invited for the University’s prestigious Regius Chair of Medical Science, which is vacant following the retirement of Sir John Savill.The Opportunity:We are seeking to appoint an outstanding medical scientist to the post. The major remit of the role is to provide outward-facing integrated strategic leadership in medical research and innovation, supporting the University’s 2030 strategic plan and the vision for developing the University’s BioQuarter as the UK’s leading Health Innovation District. This role complements CMVMs expert Deans to bring together a transformative vision across disciplines that will help college grow and shape our research capability to achieve maximal impact and societal benefit.The postholder will report to the Head of College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and support the College Dean of Research. The Regius Chair will be a member of the College Senior Leadership Team and member of the College Research Committee.We anticipate NHS Lothian will offer an honorary consultant contract for applicants who remain clinically active.We welcome applications from everyone irrespective of gender or ethnic group. Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Clinically Qualified in Medicine but with a good understanding of the pathways from basic science to translational clinical delivery.
  • Internationally respected personal research record in the area of medical science and translation. Ideally with impactful research spanning from bench to clinic.
  • Exceptional strategic medical research leadership experience and impact at national level.
  • Record of engaging successfully with major UK research funders, with government(s), policy makers and industry

£96,963 to £128,841 per year (Grade ACN4)
