Regulatory Specialist, Project ManagerVictoria, BCAbout the client:Our client is a professional services and research firm that works with indigenous communities across Canada. They are looking for a Project Manager, Regulatory Specialist to join their fast-growing team in downtown Victoria. They promote a strong team environment and look for leaders to help their organization grow and develop. Much of their work supports the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (“UNDRIP”) with a focus on Aboriginal rights and title, land use and occupancy studies, socio-economic studies, land use planning, stakeholder engagement, and industry and community relations.The ideal candidate is a professional who can work with colleagues and clients to oversee and advise on all matters associated with national, provincial, and territorial regulatory processes. Experience working with Indigenous communities to negotiate bilateral Relationship Agreements is an asset. They are looking for an energetic individual who is aligned with our relationship-based approach to business activities.Qualifications:
- Experience working with Indigenous communities on impact assessments for major projects.
- 5+ years professional experience required.
- Strong project management skills.
- Experience coordinating and conducting technical reviews of provincial and federal environmental assessments.
- Experience assessing the impacts of major projects on the environment and/or socio-economic-cultural components of a community.
- Strong understanding of Canadian federal, provincial, and territorial regulatory approvals and permitting processes.
- Strong conflict resolution skills.
- A proven track record of building and managing relationships with clients.
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
- High commitment to client satisfaction.
- A BA, or mA in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Management, or Land Use Planning.
- Formal Project Manager training or designation is preferred, but not required.
Responsibilities:
- Managing and assisting with technical peer reviews of regulatory environmental permitting submissions, reports, and approvals.
- Upholding companies QA/QC policy.
- Overseeing project budgets, schedules, human resource allocations, subcontractors, and client relations. Providing strategic planning and negotiations support to Landmark’s clients.
- Recommending appropriate mitigation, compensation, and accommodation measures to address environmental and/or socio-economic-cultural impacts of major development projects.
- Assisting in the interpretation of Indigenous and local knowledge during regulatory processes
- Effectively liaising with Indigenous community clients, regulators, and proponents.
- Responding quickly to client requests.
- Clear and concise report writing and presentation skills.
- Managing and conducting environmental assessments and/or peer reviews of major industrial projects.
- Overseeing and management through the full life cycle of a project from proposal to final deliverables.
