The Schofield laboratory within the Rutgers Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences is seeking 2 positive, dependable, detail-oriented Remote Field Technical Assistants to assist with oceanographic research in Antarctica.
These positions will be responsible for leading the field team in sampling and data collection for the Palmer Long-Term Ecological Research project (http://pal.lternet.edu/), monitoring phytoplankton dynamics in response to rapidly changing physical conditions (temperature warming, sea ice melt, etc.) along the West Antarctic Peninsula.
Responsibilities include field excursions out on a small research vessel 3-4 days a week deploying oceanographic instruments and collecting water samples, processing water samples in the lab, maintaining data logs, and basic data analysis.
The deployments are scheduled for October 2024. One position will return in May 2025, and the other will return in January 2025, and be paid $2,500/ month.
