A Day in the Life

In this role as a Remote Sales Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading, planning, and executing sales activities for the Remote Sales business in Australia & New Zealand (ANZ), delivering a 5-star experience to customers who may be no longer be served by a traditional face-to-face sales model.

Serving the widest and most diverse customer base in all of Medtronic, as the Remote Sales Manager you will be leading, planning, and executing sales activities for the Remote Sales business with the full engagement of a team that includes two Team Leaders and Remote Sales Specialists.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy to achieve revenue and growth targets for the Remote Sales business across Australia and New Zealand
  • Negotiate and manage key customer commercial partnerships including Resellers, Distributors, Day Hospital Groups, Emergency Services organizations, Defense contracts and Public/Private Hospital leadership as required
  • Manage sales related activities including offer modelling and analytics, proposal preparation, offer presentation, contract and terms negotiations, price negotiation, cost analysis, liability and exposure management and negotiation, for your Team’s accounts
  • Intensify business relationships – increasing loyalty and account retention
  • Identify key market segments, customer profiles, and sales opportunities within the business
  • Increase share of wallet, whilst reducing price erosion through establishing value to the customer
  • Secure insight and data which allows us to identify the potential for growth in key accounts – then build a plan with the Neuroscience Portfolio and ANZ business to execute on this potential
  • Ensuring the Remote Sales organization delivers an outstanding Customer experience
  • Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline, manage sales forecasts, and track performance against targets
  • Recruit, develop and retain a high performing remote Sales team which are considered specialists in their area
  • Lead the sales channels in executing engagement plans, negotiating contracts, and closing deals.
  • Working as a senior member of the business to collaborate with Operating Unit and Function leaders across ANZ to ensure your business is highly engaged and engaged with across all areas
  • Customer Relationship Management:
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers, including but not limited to public hospitals, private hospitals, resellers, distributors
  • Understand customer needs, challenges, and pain points to propose customized solutions
  • Conduct customer presentations, product demonstrations, and technical discussions to showcase new Medtronic products
  • Collaborate with customers to identify new business opportunities and expand existing accounts

  • Team Leadership and Development:
  • Set clear sales targets for the sales channels and provide guidance and support to ensure their achievement
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback, and implement training and development plans for our sales team
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture between the Remote Sales team and the Operating Units and functional teams
  • Market Intelligence and Competitive Analysis:
  • Understand the business environment of our customers and provide tailored and innovative solutions to drive growth opportunities across the NS portfolio
  • Stay updated on market trends, competitive landscape, and industry developments related to the segments where we operate
  • Analyze market data and customer insights to identify emerging opportunities and potential risks
  • Provide feedback to product management and marketing teams to help shape product roadmap and go-to-market strategies
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including tendering, Operating Unit Leaders, product management, finance, customer care, operations, and marketing, to ensure customer requirements are met and sales opportunities are maximized
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings, share market insights, and provide input on product positioning and pricing strategies
  • Effective Planning & Reporting
  • Lead the Annual Strategic Planning process for Remote Sales ANZ
  • Support the build of annual sales targets (AOPs) for your team
  • Develop and manage the team to execute on Territory and Segment/Customer plans to achieve allocated goals
  • Report to management on a regular basis on critical activities, plans and objectives
  • Lead Quarterly Business Reviews with the Senior Director EA, Remote Sales and Retail ANZ and the VP ANZ on the performance of your business areas
  • Lead Quarterly Business Reviews with the Operating Unit Leader for the businesses you represent and their Leadership teams on the performance of your business areas
  • Build, analyze and deliver effective sales reporting & reviews, team CRM reporting & reviews and all other reporting requirements as expected of the leader of the Remote Sales business for ANZ
  • Drive a continuous improvement mindset related to our internal processes within Medtronic

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree is required, Advanced degree is desirable
  • Strong (5-7+) years of relevant sales & leadership experience
  • Solid (3+) years of experience as a Remote Sales Manager in a Medical Tech company is preferred, will seriously consider remote sales management experience from another sector leading a team of at least 5 Remote Sales Specialists
  • Proven track record of managing a P&L
  • Proven solid (3+) years’ experience as a people leader is required
  • Demonstrated track record of achieving sales targets and driving revenue growth
  • Cost management experience
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience in leading and managing sales channels
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with key customers and stakeholders
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze market data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions
  • Expert Knowledge in MS Office suite of software. Excel and PowerPoint competency / certification is an advantage
  • Expert Knowledge in working with Salesforce.com / other CRM systems
  • Willingness to travel within the assigned region as required
  • Some out of hours work will be required
