We are seeking a volunteer with practical skills to assist our Property Manager in completing essential repair and maintenance tasks in the flats that house pregnant refugees or women with newborns, as well as our Free Shop and Community Space. This role is key to ensuring the safety, comfort, and security of our residents, who rely on these spaces as safe havens during vulnerable times.
As a Repair and maintenance volunteer, you will work directly with our Property Manager to help maintain and improve the facilities, including tasks like installing shelves, fixing locks, assembling furniture, and addressing minor repairs. The role is flexible, meaning you can contribute as much or as little time as you are able to, making it suitable for volunteers looking to complement another role or fit this work around other commitments. You will be part of a supportive team and play a critical role in ensuring that our flats are safe and welcoming homes for our families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with basic repair and maintenance tasks in flats, including fixing locks, assembling furniture, installing shelves, and minor plumbing or electrical work.
- Work alongside the Property Manager to assess and prioritise repair needs.
- Help maintain the safety and functionality of our Free Shop and Community Space.
- Ensure that repairs are carried out in accordance with safety regulations and standards.
- Be an active member of the team, offering support where needed to ensure the smooth running of operations.
What We Are Looking For:
- Practical, hands-on skills with a basic knowledge of DIY, repair, or maintenance tasks (e.g., carpentry, fixing locks, assembling furniture).
- Good communication skills and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A commitment to ensuring the homes and community spaces are safe and welcoming for vulnerable families.
- Previous experience in property maintenance or a similar field is an advantage but not required.
- A minimum commitment of 4 weeks is required for continuity in the role.
