Research Assistant
UCL
About the roleThe successful applicant will join a thriving research group using mouse and cellular models to investigate the genetic and developmental basis of congenital anomalies with a particular focus on neural tube defects (NTDs), such as spina bifida. Susceptibility to NTDs is influenced by genetic and non-genetic factors and the appointee will work on a Wellcome Trust-funded project investigating the impact of heat exposure (as may occur during extreme heat events) on the risk NTDs and possible mitigation. This project will make use of genetic mouse models, whole embryo culture and in vivo studies, with a range of analytical approaches. Registration for a PhD (part time) may be possible for a suitable candidate. This role is funded for 3 years in the first instance. This role is unlikely to be eligible for visa sponsorship. When applying, please avoid uploading dissertations, research papers and other large files.About youThis is an opportunity for a research assistant to join a multidisciplinary group exploring development of the nervous system and related disease models, using a range of mouse models. You will be a BSc or MSc graduate with an interest in developmental, cell or molecular biology. A background in use of mouse genetic models, cell biology or molecular biology will be an advantage. Prior experience of microscopy, transcriptomics or bioinformatics is desirable. Skills/experience in technique(s) described in the project outline are desirable, but enthusiasm, curiosity and a desire to contribute to a multidisciplinary project are essential.
