Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Building, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QUFull-time, Fixed-term until 30 September 2025We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to work on neuronal resilience in Alzheimer’s Disease in the Laboratory of Dr. Becky Carlyle, Alzheimer’s Research UK Senior Research Fellow, University of Oxford. This lab is a satellite lab of the Laboratory of Molecular Neurodegeneration headed by Professor Richard Wade-Martins. The Research Assistant will support the development and implementation of assays to study neuronal resilience using CRISPR screening in human neuronal cell lines and human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived neurons. This is an exciting opportunity to use cutting-edge technologies to contribute towards the development of potential novel therapeutics for Alzheimer’s Disease. The successful candidate will report to Dr. Becky Carlyle.Duties will include undertaking cellular and molecular experiments to assay neuronal resilience in iPSC-derived neurons and neuronal-like cell lines, including focused CRISPR screens; management of your own research within guidelines provided by Dr. Carlyle; project planning; experimental optimization; presentation of data; contribution to scientific reports and articles; and assistance with general lab management and administration.Applicants must hold, or be near completion of, a BSc/MSc in a relevant area of research and have a strong interest in cellular neuroscience, and molecular cell biology relevant to analysis of neuronal phenotypes. You will have practical experience of working with cell cultures, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage your own research activities. You will have experience of following and adapting protocols, including for imaging-based experiments. The ability to innovate, trouble-shoot technical problems, be meticulous in practical work and in record keeping is essential.
