We have a generous holiday package; plus the opportunity to buy more, great pension schemes and a number of health and wellbeing initiatives to support you.Closing Date: 01 August 2024The RoleThe NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) North East and North Cumbria invites applications for a researcher in our Supporting Children and Families theme.Amongst other duties you will contribute to ongoing projects and to the development of new projects, as well as develop your own research programme in this area, write for publication, present results at meetings and conferences, supervise student projects and support the management of the SCF.Our work is based around creating a better start in life and supporting care across childhood including maternal healthcare. Our research aims to develop better integrated health and social care for children and their families, improving outcomes and reducing inequalities.The successful applicant will join a vibrant regional community of research fellows within the ARC North East and North Cumbria.Fixed term post: full-time until 31 March 2026. • Contribute to the delivery of ongoing projects in children and families and to the development of new projects aligning to your own research interests
• Develop projects relating to maternity, infants, children, and families
• Carry out research within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and to an appropriate standard
• Attend meetings and other events appropriate to the projects
• Prepare papers for publication and disseminate findings at conferences and meetings as required
• Support supervision of undergraduate and masters student dissertations
• Identify and undertake a programme of professional development, including further training in research methods and other transferable skills
• Carry out administrative tasks and other duties to support the management of the SCF theme and the NIHR ARC as required by the Director

• Clear knowledge and experience of qualitative,quantitative, or mixed methods research including data collection and analysis
• Evidence of ability to co-author peer reviewed publications
• Evidence of successfully working on an applied health research project relating to the children and families
• Evidence of ability to work independently and with others in a team
• The ability to communicate to a range of audiences using a range of presentation approaches
• The ability to maintain confidentiality and to handle difficult or sensitive situations
• Be able to work flexibly with regard to hours of work including occasional evenings, and travel across the region
• Experience of public involvement and engagement in research or evidenced interest in developing this.
• To have relevant IT skills

• Knowledge of health and social care policy relating to the UK
• An understanding of the research inclusion agenda

• Evidence of successfully working across several projects or complex project components at one time
• Evidence of ability to lead peer reviewed publications
• Evidence of ability to work independently and co-operatively with others
• Experience of collaborative working across multi-professional teams
• The ability to communicate well to a wide range of audiences using a range of presentation approaches
• Be able to work flexibly with regard to hours of work including occasional evenings, and travel across the region
• To have relevant IT skills
• Ability to use initiative, prioritise and show a creative approach to problem solving
• Project management experience
• Clear knowledge of health and social care policy relating to health and health inequalities
• Experience of contributing to the research inclusion agenda
• Experience of public involvement and engagement in research or evidenced interest in developing this

Desirable

• Experience of preparing research proposals for submission to competitive funding organisations (e.g., NIHR, research councils)
• Experience of supervising student projects
• Experience of conducting systematic literature reviews
