We have a generous holiday package; plus the opportunity to buy more, great pension schemes and a number of health and wellbeing initiatives to support you.Closing Date: 23 June 2024The RoleThis is a full-time, 25 months fixed term Research Assistant/Associate position and provides an exciting opportunity for an early career scientist who is interested in human movement, wearable technology and digital outcomes.You will be expected to work in an interdisciplinary group who has an established international reputation in gait analysis and wearable technology analytics.The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biomedical Science, Movement Science or related field (a PhD is essential for the Research Associate position), experience of delivering instrumented gait and balance assessments; proficient and independent signal processing, statistical and computational skills, and ability to work independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will be integrated within the .This post will involve contributing to two projects which are led by the Wellcome Centre for Mitochondrial Research (PI: Dr Ng) and in collaboration the BAM Research Group at Newcastle University and Tubingen University, Germany. The project will investigate the utility of using wearable technology for monitoring mobility in the real-world in patients with POLG-related mitochondrial disease and Friedreich’s ataxia. The overall aim of these projects is to determine which mobility outcomes are important to measure for quantifying disease progression.You will be expected to conduct traditional laboratory-based research assessments with participants as well as collect real-world mobility data using wearable sensors.
