We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated postgraduate or postdoctoral Research Assistant in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Sleep, to work within the Surrey Sleep Research Centre at the University of Surrey.This full-time post is available on a fixed term basis for 12 months. The Research Assistant will work under the supervision of Dr Ullrich Bartsch and in collaboration with the Prof Paul Gringras at the Evelina Children’s Hospital and King’s College London.The roleYou will be part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers with the main aim to develop the next generation of AI models to predict severe sleep disorders, such as narcolepsy, from signals collected using wearable devices including electroencephalography (EEG).This will require expertise in time series analysis and feature engineering using multimodal timeseries, with a focus on EEG signals. Additionally experience in using different deep learning architecture for time series classification would be beneficial.A second goal of the project is to develop the concept of a frontend for the dissemination of model generated predictions to clinical teams. Experience in frontend development and inclusion of user feedback into deep learning architectures using reinforcement learning or a or related technologies would be advantageousYou will be part of a vibrant research environment within the Surrey Sleep Research Centre at the University of Surrey – and included in the University-wide Institute for People-Centred Artificial Intelligence (PAI). Your work will involve leading, devising, coordinating, and supervising research projects, including the work involved in the collaborations with project partners, guidance to researchers and students, and applying for further funding to extend the research.About youYou should hold a relevant postgraduate degree (Master’s) and/or hold a PhD/DPhil or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil – with experience in the field of computer science, maths, biomedical engineering, or other fields relevant to the proposed area of research. Proven programming experience in Python, MATLAB or C/C++ is essential.
