About usApplications are invited for the post of Research Assistant in Retinal Cell Biology at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, ranked the best place in the world to study Ophthalmology (CWUR Rankings by Subject 2017).This Research Assistant post offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in research into inherited retinal disease in a highly successful and dynamic research group.About the roleDuration: 12 months, in the first instance (from 06/01/2025 until 05/01/2026)Salary: the post is offered at UCL salary scale Grade 6b spine point 26 (£39,007 per annum, including London Allowance)The Research Assistant will work as part of a multidisciplinary team on a project to explore the molecular mechanisms of retinal degeneration.The position would suit an ambitious graduate with a background and interest in the mechanisms of neurodegeneration, genetics, retinal cell biology, or stem cell derived models of disease. The successful candidate would ideally have experience with molecular biology techniques, stem cell culture and/or microscopy. (S)he will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, and with established collaborators, to investigate the molecular mechanisms of inherited retinal degeneration using iPSC derived 3D retinal organoids to explore how structural variants cause retinal degeneration.The appointed individual will join a collaborative team led by Prof Alison Hardcastle and Prof Mike Cheetham. The position is funded by Foundation Fighting Blindness and will be for 12 months.About youThe successful applicant should have a minimum of a BSc or MSc in a relevant subject, laboratory experience, excellent communication skills and show a strong commitment to high quality research.
