The Institute of Health Research and Innovation was constituted in February 2018. It is embedded in the Faculty of Science, Health and the Environment and focuses on the two broad themes of Biomedical Sciences and Rural Health and Wellbeing.Health research at the university has significantly grown since 2016, thanks to various external sources of funding for projects of European and international scale. In 2021, 28% of our research was classed as world-leading, a substantial increase over the 17% equivalent score in 2014. The research themes are currently being strategically conjoined to form an interdisciplinary and cross-partnership One Health strand.Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal – investment programme in the School of Health, Social Care and Life Sciences
As part of the Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal managed by the Highland Council, the university was awarded £9m from the UK Government to establish key infrastructure and innovation capacity.The Life Sciences Innovation Centre on Inverness Campus, which opened in March 2023, operates as a flexible open-access commercialisation facility, with a strong theme of collaboration with Highlands and Islands Enterprise, NHS Highland, the academic sector and commercial partners. This activity generates new products and services, business start-ups and licensing deals, as well as healthcare service improvements and new models for clinical delivery for the NHS.The Life Sciences Innovation Centre also hosts the innovation hub operated by Highlands and Islands Enterprise. It supports developments around the Highlands and Islands. The National Treatment Centre – Highland is also located on Inverness Campus, which fosters tripartite collaboration with NHS Highland.Medical Nanotechnology
Medical nanotechnology has been identified as a beacon research and innovation theme to meet the Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal outcomes. It is a new theme for the Institute of Health Research and Innovation with a momentum gained thanks to the appointment of Professor Alistair Kean in 2019.Research Assistant
This post has been created to assist the development and activities of the Medical Nanotechnology. There will be an element of collaboration with the NHS Highland Department of Medical Physics and Bioengineering. The starting salary for this position will be in the range of £26,452 – £28,067 per annum (UHI grade five).This post is full-time and will involve working 35 hours per week, usually Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, with flexibility as agreed with your line manager.This post is permanent, with a start date to be determined with the successful candidate.£26,452 to £28,067 per annum.
