IGH aims to support the development of robust solutions to aspects of the world’s major global health challenges through scholarly outputs, education, public engagement, translational research, and ultimately by influencing public policy and professional practice.The British National Surveys of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles (Natsal- ) are large probability-sample bio-behavioural surveys. Natsal was first run in 1990 and has taken place every 10 years since, the surveys use a probability sampling method to randomly select people from across Britain to take part. The consistent methodology and repetition of the surveys have made it possible to look at differences in sexual behaviours over time.We have an exciting opportunity for 3 Research Assistants/Research Fellows with a strong interest in data, public health, and epidemiology to work with the Natsal Team. Successful applicants will play a key role in conducting statistical analyses and literature reviews, as well as writing academic papers for this internationally recognised study.About the roleThe postholders will have a pivotal role within the Natsal team, with responsibility for data analysis and dissemination aspects of Natsal. The Natsal-4 dataset will be large, with >1000 variables and derived variables. The postholder will work closely with Dr Elise Paul, the Data Analysis Lead to:

  • carry out analyses of the Natsal-4 quantitative data;
  • produce tables of results;
  • assist with the interpretation of the results;
  • assist with the writing of outputs including papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals;
  • keep an accurate and clear record of statistical programmes used for analyses (e.g. Stata ‘do’ files);
  • prepare and present the results at conferences and for other dissemination activities.

These posts are available full time (i.e. 36.5 hours per week) but Part-time and Job-share applications are also considered. Posts are available part-time for a minimum of 26 hours per week. They will have a PhD (or master’s degree, in the case of Grade 6B) in epidemiology/a related discipline, or equivalent substantial experience, and experience of multi-disciplinary team working. They will have excellent data management and analysis skills, and experience of conducting data analyses using Stata or other software packages.
