About usThe International Centre for Evidence-Based Criminal Law (EB-CRIME) is a network of researchers from different scientific disciplines that collaborate in research projects about evidence in criminal cases. UCL Centre for the forensic science is one of the collaborators under the lead of Dr Sherry Nakhaeizadeh. The overall research at EB-CRIME aims to facilitate evidence-based evaluations and decision making by, for example, police officers, prosecutors, forensic medical doctors and judges EB-CRIME is funded by the Swedish Research Council. The research is enabled by collaborations between researchers in multidisciplinary projects, all of which are directly relevant for criminal case procedures. In total, we are 11 researchers within nine different scientific disciplines including Forensic Anthropology, DNA, Law, Digital Evidence, Forensic Biology and Forensic Medicine.About the roleThe post-holder will be required to work on research projects concerned with decision making in forensic anthropological sex and age estimations. The post-holder is expected to have extensive knowledge in forensic anthropology and sex and age estimation methods used in forensic anthropology. The post-holder should also be comfortable in working with CT scans and 3D models of bones. An understanding and experience in using eye tracking technology and machine learning is desirable, as is awareness of technological advancements and method developments in forensic anthropology.The post is funded at 0.4 FTE, UCL Grade 6 for 2 year and 4 months starting 2nd September 2024- 22nd January 2027. Candidate must have knowledge in CT scans and 3D models of bones. Experience in working in a collaborative research environment is essential. You will have strong research skills, strong organisational skills, excellent scientific writing abilities and the ability to present complex information effectively to a range of audiences.
