The roleA postdoctoral research associate in the Lennox Lab ( ) will work on the development of electrochemical fluorination methodologies towards treatments for Chagas disease.What will you be doing?You will be designing and synthesising new fluorinated quinones as potential treatments for Chagas disease. The development of new synthetic methodology using organic electrochemistry and hypervalent iodine will be required. In addition, density functional theory (DFT) will be used to assess the mechanisms of reactions that are developed. This exciting multidisciplinary project will involve a combination of techniques associated with inorganic and organic synthesis, computational calculations and electrochemistry, and will work in collaboration with a team in Brazil.You should apply ifYou have a PhD in Chemistry or have submitted your thesis prior to taking up the appointment. You will have a keen interest and enthusiasm to expand your expertise into new areas and in unfamiliar disciplines, to work on high risk/high reward projects, and to work beyond the traditional boundaries of organic synthesis both independently and through collaboration. You will have extensive expertise in organic/inorganic synthesis and extensive expertise and experience in hypervalent iodine chemistry, organic electrochemistry and computational chemistry. You will be comfortable in the safe handling of toxic and hazardous materials, and be proficient in the accurate characterisation of complex organic molecules. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, and will be capable of working under your own initiative.
