The Office of the Chief Economist is seeking a talented and motivated Research Associate to contribute to the Department’s analysis and communications on strategic outputs. Working as part of a small, dynamic and supportive Front Office team,the Research Associate will work closely with the Chief Economist and under the direct supervision of the Senior Economist, engaging with colleagues across the Department and the broader OECD. The Research Associate’s work will contribute to strengthening the OECD’s role in the field of economic policy advice and achieving the OECD strategic objectives. The role may include direct involvement in a project or assignment within the branches of the Economics Department.
Research and Drafting:
- Conduct background economic and policy research and analysis on macroeconomic and structural policy issues, including literature reviews, statistical and empirical analysis and contributions to drarfting fast track research requests together with co-authors in the Economics Department.
- Assist in the preparationeof speeches, talking points, briefing materials and background analysis for the OECD Chief Economist and the Economic Counsellor.
- Assist with reviewing and proofreading policy documents to ensure clarity and coherence.
Communication and coordination:
- Contribute to the development of innovative data visualisation and presentations to enhance the Department’s communication and dissemination efforts.
- Support the coordination of contributions from different branches of the Economics department for key outputs.
- Liaise with other OECD directorates and external stakeholders to gather relevant information.
Qualifications:
- Academic and Professional Background
- Undergraduate degree in economics or finance or related discipline. Experience in a economic policy environment will be an asset. .
- Strong knowledge of macroeconomic policy issues with relevant coursework or relevant experience in macroeconomics, international economics, microeconomics, public policy, statistics, quantitative analysis, econometrics is required.
- Experience in drafting high-qualityspeeches, summaries and briefing materials and to distil policy implications from research work.
- International experience in policy, research and analytical activities through studies, internships or professional activities would be an asset.
Tools
- Proficiency in Excel is a requirement.
- Knowledge of statistical and econometric tools such as Stata, R would be an asset.
Skills:
- Keen interest in and good understanding of global and national macroeconomic, and ideally, structural policy issues.
- Strong statistical and quantitative skills; good knowledge of econometric tools and statistical techniques would be an asset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Languages:
- Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and knowledge of the other, with a commitment to reach a good working level.
- Knowledge of other languages would be an asset.
