Research Associate in Evidence SynthesisJob PurposeTo make a leading contribution to evidence synthesis research within the Evidence Synthesis Group at Complex Reviews Synthesis Unit (CRSU). The Evidence Synthesis Group @CRSU, embedded within HEHTA, is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The aim of the Group is to address knowledge gaps, and to answer specific needs of clinical and health policy decision-makers across the four nations of the UK.The successful candidate will also have opportunities to contribute to evidence synthesis activities within HEHTA. They will lead the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct complex and challenging projects as opportunities allow.Main Duties and Responsibilities1. Play a leading role in the management and development of evidence synthesis projects, and to work independently and in collaboration to bring the project to a successful completion. This will include establishing and engaging with external collaborators and stakeholders.2. Play a leading role in the planning and conduct of assigned research individually or jointly in accordance with the project deliverables and Evidence Synthesis Group/HEHTA research strategy.3. Establish and maintain an extensive research profile and reputation and that of the University/HEHTA. This include sustaining a track record of independent and joint publications of high-quality publications, enhancing the research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit, and gathering indicators of esteem.4. Presentation of research to policy decision-makers, at international and national conferences, at internal and external seminars, colloquia and workshops to develop and enhance the research profile of HEHTA/the University.5. Lead the identification of potential funding sources and the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research.6. Take a leading role in developing and maintaining collaborations with colleagues across HEHTA/the University and wider community.7. Play a leading role in the organisation, supervision, mentoring and training of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced members of the project team to ensure their effective development.8. Supervise postgraduate taught and postgraduate research students as assigned by Director of HEHTA.9. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline. Engage in personal, professional and career development, to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.10. Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or alternatively possess the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience, with experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s)A2. A comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of current issues and future directions within the subject area of evidence synthesisA3. Knowledge of translating complex clinical and health questions into appropriate research questions for evidence synthesisA4. Knowledge of advanced evidence synthesis methodologiesDesirableB1. Knowledge of health economics and health technology assessmentSkillsEssentialC1. Excellent skills in appropriate statistical software commonly used in evidence synthesis (e.g. R, Stata, WinBUGS)C2. Excellent communication skills (oral and written), including the ability to communicate complex/specialist concepts clearly and concisely to a broad range of stakeholdersC3. Proven ability to deliver quality outputs in a timely and efficient mannerC4. A systematic and thorough approach to work with high level of attention to detailC5. Proven track record in undertaking evidence synthesis (including systematic reviews, overviews, scoping reviews) of various types of evidence, independently or under minimal supervisionDesirableF1. Experience in delivering teaching in evidence synthesisF2. A strong track record of publishing evidence synthesis in peer-reviewed journalsF3.
