College of Biomedical and Life SciencesA position is available for a Research Associate to work in the Neuroscience and Mental Health Innovation Institute at Cardiff University. Based at the University’s flagship Hadyn Ellis Building, you will be part of a team of researchers at Cardiff University, Bristol Univeristy and Exeter University working on a groundbreaking and innovative Welcome Trust funded grant entitled ‘The Sleep Detectives: Sleep stratification in young people at high risk of psychosis’How can sleep measurements inform interventions for children at high risk of psychosis? Evidence links sleep to both cognitive function and psychosis risk. However, the details of when and how sleep impacts cognition and psychosis risk remain unclear. In this study, a multidisciplinary team spanning Cardiff, Bristol and Exeter will evaluate if sleep can be used to determine personalised care for children and young people at a genetically high risk of psychosis. To do this, you will collect longitudinal measures of sleep behaviour and neurophysiology (including wearable technology, such as EEG headbands and actiwatches) and app-based metrics), as well as cognitive and clinical assessments. You will work together with the children and their families to test and validate graded measures of sleep and cognition.You will conduct psychiatric interviews, assess neurocognitive function and conduct data analysis and manuscript preparation. You will also obtain blood and saliva samples from participants. You will be required to travel UK-wide (expenses will be provided) to assess patients in their own homes which will require overnight stays and work outside of normal office hours.You should have a PhD in Psychology or a related subject. To conduct research within neuroscience and mental health and contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University, carrying out research leading to the publishing of high-quality research. To pursue excellence in research and to inspire others to do the same.Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesResearch

• To conduct research within neuroscience and mental health and contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University by the production of measurable outputs including bidding for funding, publishing in national academic journals and conferences, and the recruitment and supervision of postgraduate research students.
• To develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research including research funding proposals.
• To attend and or present at conferences/seminars at a local and national level as required.
• To undertake administrative tasks associated with the research project, including the planning and organisation of the project and the implementation of procedures required to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
• To prepare research ethics and research governance applications as appropriate.
• To review and synthesise existing research literature within the field.
• To participate in School research activities.
• To build and create networks both internally and externally to the university, to influence decisions, explore future research requirements, and share research ideas for the benefit of research projects.
