Research AssociateJob PurposeTo make a leading contribution to a project Neuro processing of space working with Michael Kohl. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow.Main Duties and Responsibilities1. Take a leading role in the planning and conduct of assigned research individually or jointly in accordance with the project deliverables and project/group/School/College research strategy, as well as in accordance with ethical constraints as specified both in law and in local ethical guidelines and policies.2. Take responsibility for ensuring that relevant research equipment is safe and maintained in good working order, and that users of the equipment are appropriately trained and supervised.3. Undertake organisation, supervision, mentoring and training of less experienced members of the project team, such as undergraduate and/or postgraduate students, as required by the line manager.4. Document research output including maintaining records and databases as well as analysis and interpretation of all relevant data.5. Contribute to the preparation, submission and revision of papers and other outputs to be submitted to appropriate peer reviewed journals or other fora, collaborating with others as appropriate, and respecting principles of Open Science where possible.6. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline.7. Work in a collegial manner with colleagues, including appropriately acknowledging all team members’ contributions, and participating in collaborative events such as joint research projects, or journal clubs and other similar activities, as required by the line manager.8. Present work at international and national conferences, at internal and external seminars, colloquia and workshops so as to develop and enhance our research profile.9. Engage in personal, professional and career development, to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with School/College/University regulations as well as desired career trajectory.10. Contribute to the overall activities of the research team and department, including provision of a limited amount of undergraduate teaching (lectures and seminars), and administrative tasks as required by the line manager.11. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the line manager/Centre head/Head of School.12. Actively follow University of Glasgow policies including Fire and Health & Safety Regulations as well as Equal Opportunities and Race Equality policies.QualificationsEssential:A1 Normally Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 [PhD] or alternatively possess the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience, with experience of personal development in a similar or related role[s]Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceEssential:
C1 Relevant post-doctoral research experience gained in a relevant research environment. A comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of current issues and future directions within the wider subject area or subject specialism
C2 Knowledge of project-specific technical models, equipment or techniquesC3 Sufficient depth of relevant research experience, normally including sufficient postdoctoral experience in a related field, appropriate to an early career researcherExperienceEssential:
E1 Proven ability to deliver quality outputs in a timely and efficient manner A track record of presentation and publication of research results in quality journals/conferences
E2 Experience of making a leading contribution in academic activities Ability to demonstrate a degree of independence as illustrated by identification of project objectives from assessment of the literature, design & analysis of experiments & drafting of papers.
E3 Experience in undertaking independent research Commitment to open research, as appropriate to the discipline, through open data, open code, open educational resources and practices that support replication.
