DepartmentWe are looking for a talented and motivated full-time research associate to join the groups of and based in the Bioscience Technology Facility and York Biomedical Institute, Department of Biology at the University of York. The team focuses on using machine learning approaches to predict cell fate in heterogeneous populations, with a view to building a collaborative network to make such resources available to researchers in low resource settings.RoleWe use a combination of advanced live cell imaging microscopy approaches together with machine learning to understand and predict cell behaviour in heterogeneous populations, with a current focus on breast cancer cells and explant cultures. In this new project, funded by the Wellcome Trust, we will build on our existing to develop capability with more complex datasets from different imaging platforms. The successful candidate will benefit from a highly collaborative programme with international academic and industrial partners. The post holder will be expected to balance driving their independent research project alongside managing complex imaging datasets for a longitudinal project with a long-term view to research. They will also work closely with other lab members and researchers across the institute and take an active role in supervising students and developing potential new areas of research.Skills, Experience & Qualification neededThe successful candidate will have a PhD (or be near completion) in a biomedical sciences discipline (preferred, not essential), or equivalent experience in cell biology and/or image analysis. Experience in cell/tissue culture and machine learning/coding techniques is desirable. Candidates with experience in using advanced microscopy, and/or experience in signal processing of data/programming scripts for data analysis are particularly encouraged to apply.
