Research Associate in Cell Dynamics

Job title:

Research Associate in Cell Dynamics

Company

University of Manchester

Job description

The Herbert group seeks an ambitious and highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to join our team in understanding how endothelial cell signalling, migration and blood vessel formation are controlled by asymmetric cell divisions. This Wellcome Trust-funded programme of research exploits cutting-edge genome editing and super-resolution/live microscopy in vitro and in vivo to dissect how manipulation asymmetric cell divisions be used to fundamentally direct cell signalling and motility during the initiation of blood vessel formation. We aim to define key principles by which asymmetric divisions partition key vascular fate determinants and exploit this knowledge to achieve predictable control of blood vessel formation in vivo. By utilising blood vessel morphogenesis in the zebrafish model system as our core tissue model, findings will not only uncover fundamental principles underpinning tissue building, but also be highly relevant to manipulation of tumour angiogenesis in cancer, or tissue revascularisation following myocardial ischemia or stroke.Applicants should already hold a PhD, or expect to shortly, and the position is tenable for 15 months in the first instance. What you will get in return:

  • Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
