Position Description The Center for the Study of World Religions at Harvard Divinity School invites applications for a one-year paid Research Associate in Eastern Christian Texts and Translations. The candidates will work under the supervision of the Director of the Center, Professor Charles Stang, as part of the Center’s initiative on “Transcendence and Transformation.” Please see the CSWR website at this link for more information before applying.
The appointment will begin on September 1, 2023 and end August 31, 2024.
Candidates will work with the Center Director on a series of editions, translations, and interpretive studies of ancient and medieval texts of Eastern Christianity, and adjacent traditions.
Candidates will participate in relevant meetings of students, staff, fellows, and faculty (online as well as in-person). In addition, candidates will be expected to contribute to the Center’s programming, public and private, (e.g. lecture series, workshops, reading groups, conferences, and possibly publications) in consultation with the Center Director.

Basic Qualifications Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications:
(1) Completed advanced degree in a relevant field (completed PhD or ThD, not more than five years from the degree)
(2) Experience editing and translating ancient and medieval Eastern Christian texts
(3) Advanced proficiency in modern research languages (e.g. French, German, Italian) and relevant ancient languages (e.g. Greek, Syriac, Coptic, Arabic, Armenian, et al).
(4) A robust record of publications in the field of Eastern Christian studies
(5) Experience with different formats and fonts for ancient scripts, page layout, and other digital tools for philology.
