BackgroundWe are seeking an enthusiastic Research Assistant to join our interdisciplinary research team for a 2.5-year post as part of the UKRI-funded “Big-Data for Nanoelectronics” project. The successful candidate will contribute to a program of work focused on automated and high-throughput experiments using custom optical microscopy, applying modern data techniques to derive new insights into optoelectronic nanostructures including nano-lasers, single photon emitters and non-linear optical devices.This project will establish a new methodology for efficient optimization of complex nanotechnology devices with immediate applications in photonic integrated circuitry, novel semiconductor development, and quantum technologies.The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and implement automated, ultra-high-throughput experimental tools
  • Design and build custom optical microscopy setups
  • Apply cutting-edge data analysis techniques to large experimental datasets
  • Contribute to the broader understanding of nano(opto)electronic performance

You should have, or be soon to receive, a PhD or equivalent in physics, optics, chemistry, materials science, nanotechnology, quantum technology or a related field.In this role, the successful candidate will have responsibility to: * Contribute to a research program on automated and high-throughput experiments for nanotechnology

  • Apply modern data analysis techniques to derive new insights from experimental results
  • Collaborate with other researchers in the team, across the department, and with global materials growth colleagues
  • Communicate results through publications, conference talks, developing IP and working with industrial partners
  • Work safely in a research laboratory environment, including handling class 4 lasers and cryogenic systems.
  • Provide guidance to PhD and MSc students
