Job title:

Research Associate in Quantum Simulation

Company

University of Strathclyde

Job description

FTE: 1 FTETerm: Fixed Term (24 months) with possibility of extensionApplications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Quantum Simulation team as part of the newly funded EPSRC Programme Grant QQQS. We use a quantum-gas microscope to probe the dynamics of ultracold fermions in optical lattices at the single-atom level. We aim to study strongly correlated fermionic quantum systems in tailored light potentials and novel lattice geometries, for example chains of coupled tweezers, or a Lieb lattice, with properties such as flat bands, localization and edge states. We are seeking a highly motivated experimental researcher who will be responsible for the operation and development of the experimental quantum-gas microscope platform. The successful applicant will work closely with the Principal Investigator on planning and running new experiments, including data analysis. They will be an integral part of the team comprised of the Principal Investigator, a Research Fellow and two PhD students, and will assist with the training and mentoring of the students. The successful applicant will be based in the Department of Physics under the supervision of Prof. Stefan Kuhr and Dr. Arthur La Rooij, within the Experimental Quantum Optics and Photonics group at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. Candidates will have a PhD (or close to completion) in atomic physics and ultracold atom experiments or have equivalent experience. Experience with strongly correlated many-body systems in optical potentials is desirable. Further requirements are relevant technical skills in laser frequency stabilisation and control, control of complex experimental setups, image analysis, and data acquisition. An ability to prepare scientific publications and present research outcomes at local, national and international research meetings is expected.Interviews will take place in September 2024.Potential applicants are encouraged to contact Prof. Stefan Kuhr ([email protected]) prior to submitting an application.
