Cardiff School of EngineeringWe seek a talented, motivated postdoctoral researcher with practical expertise in semiconductor quantum light sources. You will conduct research in microcavity-enhanced quantum dots for applications in photonic quantum technology.Candidates must have a PhD in Engineering, Physics or closely-related subject focusing on semiconductor quantum optics. Desirable criteria include experimental expertise, knowledge of relevant quantum physics, labview programming and data analysis evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed academic journals. You will support existing PhDs and PDRAs in the group in delivering their research goals.You will join a vibrant and growing research group working on semiconductor quantum optics. The group runs well equipped labs suitable for high resolution optical spectroscopy, photon counting and quantum optics. Device processing will occur in the Institute for Compound Semiconductors (ICS) cleanroom which forms part of > £300m investment in new research and innovation centres in South Wales. The ICS will be a unique facility in Europe, equipped with epitaxy, state-of-the art fabrication and device characterisation facilities.This post is to work on the project entitled “QCI3: Hub for Quantum Computing via Integrated and Interconnected Implementations” which is funded by the Physical Sciences and Engineering.This post is full time (35 hours a week), available immediately with a fixed term of 24 months. 1. Postgraduate degree at PhD level (or nearing completion / submission) in a related subject area or relevant industrial experienceKnowledge, Skills and Experience
2. An established expertise and proven portfolio of research and/or relevant industrial experience within the following research fields:
i. Semiconductor quantum light sources
ii. Nanophotonic quantum technologies3. Knowledge of current status of research in specialist field
4. Proven ability to publish in international journals, international conferences and/or other research outputs
5. Knowledge and understanding of competitive research funding to be able to develop applications to funding bodiesCommunication and Team Working
6. Proven ability in effective and persuasive communication
