Full timeNumber of posts 2The Opportunity:We are looking for two Postdoctoral Research Associates (PDRAs) in Theoretical/Computational Soft Matter and Fluid Dynamics to work with Prof Halim Kusumaatmaja in the Institute for Multiscale Thermofluids, School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh.The group is interested in a wide range of phenomena concerning the complex behaviours of liquid droplets interacting with soft, patterned, an/or structured substrates. Depending on the interests of the candidates, they can contribute towards (i) the development of analytical and numerical techniques for modelling wetting phenomena and interfacial flows (including multi-physics coupling to phase change, solid elasticity, etc); (ii) understanding flow dynamics of droplets on liquid repellent surfaces (e.g., on superhydrophobic, liquid infused, and other liquid-like surfaces); and/or (iii) understanding biological or biologically inspired wetting and interfacial phenomena (e.g., the interaction of biomolecular condensates with lipid membranes and cytoskeletal filaments).The candidates are expected to have expertise and experience in analytical approaches and/or computer simulations in the areas of fluid dynamics, soft matter, and interfacial phenomena. The project may involve collaborations with experimental collaborators and industrial partners.The positions are to commence in October 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.   • An undergraduate degree and a PhD in physical sciences, engineering, applied mathematics or a clearly related area.
  • Proven track record of research in theoretical/computational soft matter, fluid dynamics, or interfacial science, or closely related area.
  • Demonstrable skills and experience in analytical calculations and/or computer simulations.
  • Demonstrable ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including with colleagues from different background.
